Part-time Opto-mechanical Engineer

Job description

  • Design and Development: Engineer mechanical components and assemblies.

  • Precision Mechanisms: Develop mechanisms for positioning and aligning optics, ensuring mechanical tolerance stack-ups maintain optical alignment.

  • Stability Analysis: Assess and optimize the mechanical and thermal stability of optical assemblies using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other analytical tools.

  • Process Development: Contribute to the development and refinement of alignment, assembly, and testing processes for optical systems.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Optics, Systems Engineering, and Hardware teams to ensure integrated and reliable designs, including considerations for PCB design and technical aspects.

  • Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with vendors to oversee the fabrication and quality of mechanical parts, mechanisms, and optical components.

  • Adaptability: Take on additional responsibilities as needed to meet evolving business requirements.

Job requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Technical skills:

  • Proficient with CAD CAM software. Inventor is preferred.

  • Finite element tools, preferably ANSYS Mechanical. 

  • Finite Element Modeling experience (structural, thermal, vibration).

  • Experience utilizing MATLAB.

  • Bonus skill: working knowledge of an optical ray trace software (Zemax, Oslo).

  • Years of experience: 2-3 Years.

  • Capability to interface with multidisciplinary groups including senior leadership.

  • Flexible, anticipating on a challenging and dynamic environment.

  • Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
