Job description

Si-Ware is seeking a motivated and talented Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team for the summer. The intern will work on an exciting project exploring the use of carbon fiber for building composites to be used in mechanical components. This hands-on project will provide valuable experience in materials engineering, composite manufacturing, and mechanical design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on carbon fiber materials and their applications in mechanical components.
  • Assist in designing and fabricating carbon fiber composite prototypes.
  • Perform mechanical testing and analysis of composite materials.
  • Model carbon fiber composites using ANSYS ACP and evaluate the simulation results.
  • Document experimental procedures, results, and findings.
  • Collaborate with the mechanical engineering team to integrate carbon fiber composites into existing and new products.
  • Present project progress and findings to the engineering team and stakeholders.

Technical skills:

  • Proficiency in CAD CAM software (e.g., Inventor, HSM, etc.).
  • Experience with mechanical testing equipment and methods.
  • Familiarity with composite manufacturing techniques (e.g., lay-up, vacuum infusion molding).

Job requirements

Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s program in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
  • Completed coursework in materials science, mechanical design, and manufacturing processes.
  • Basic understanding of composite materials and their mechanical properties.
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) software, preferably ANSYS ACP.
